Our Story
For the past 30 years, "Blue Bird Ranch" has had a number of different types of businesses. Blue Bird Ranch is owned and operated by the Prout Family. The first business that started was farming blueberries fields in Washington County and hen farms in Lubec and Jonesboro, ME. In the late 1970s, the hen farms were sold due to the closing of railroads in Washington County. At that time, the Prout family began their trucking
business in Jonesboro, ME.
For a short time in the early '80s, the family ran a small take-out restaurant and catering business.
The 1990s was a growing year for the company, as dry and cold storage warehouses were built in Jonesboro and the business expanded the warehousing storage to also include a location in Baring, Maine. The trucking and warehouse businesses are run by James M. Prout (father) and by sons, Troy M. Prout, Brad E. Prout, and Darren J. Prout.
Another business expansion was the purchase of Graham's Restaurant in February 1996. This restaurant is known as The Blue Bird Ranch Family Restaurant. Hope A. Prout (mother) and Bethany Prout Foss (daughter) run the restaurant.
In 2004, the Prout Family opened the Barren View Golf Course also located in Jonesboro and is managed by Brad E. Prout. The latest business venture is manufacturing Norumbega Blue Blueberry Vinaigrette Dressing and Norumbega Blue Blueberry Jam made in Maine with Wild Maine Blueberries.
